Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic Motor Oil: High Quality “Blood!”
Written by The Wire
Engine oil has often been equated to human blood in terms of importance. Both are required for the life of “engines” -- the internal combustion engine and the human heart. Both will suffer from clogging if too much of the wrong thing enters the “bloodstream,- cholesterol for humans and sludge and deposits for engines. So it is very important that you spend the extra dough required to put the best fluids in both machines, and for the engine, look no further than the world class protection offered by Pennzoil’s new “Ultra” synthetic.
Soon, Automotive Rhythms will unveil Project Vehicle #5, a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner is a perennial sales favorite, as it combines true utility on a truck-based frame. AR headquarters was blasted with two, 30 inch plus snowstorms last winter, but we are ready to do battle now with the 4Runner! We chose the Limited model with a 4.7-liter “I-Force” V8. This brute can tow 8,500 pounds without any modifications.
Cold winters, towing, and the improved performance with Toyota Racing Development modifications that we will soon install, and we need the best protection available to ensure stellar engine performance.
So why Pennzoil over Valvoline or Mobil 1? They’re both good oils, but we wanted the best. Ultra Synthetic is the result of years of research and testing in real-world scenarios, including harsh winter cold and grueling summer heat.
To dissect the incredible value offered by Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic, we travelled to Richard Childress Racing in Welcome, North Carolina, who uses Pennzoil for his NASCAR teams. There, Pennzoil Engineers broke down the science of oil for us, as oil is more than just “oil.”
Engine oils are complex mixtures of base oils and additives designed to lubricate moving parts, reduce engine wear, help prevent deposits from forming on internal engine components and suspend dirt and contaminants until they can be removed at the next oil change.
Did you know that a high quality motor oil has up to 25% of its formulation in additives? Dispersants, detergents, anti-wear agents, antioxidants (just like humans!), friction modifiers, anti-foam additives, viscosity improvers, pour point depressants and rust and corrosion inhibitors are all found in Ultra Synthetic. Together, they form a formidable barrier against engine wear and sludge formation, and can actually improve fuel economy through reduced internal friction.
Another did you know, which really brings home the importance of quality oil -- For every 100 gallons of gasoline you burn, these by products can end up in your oil:
*90-120 gallons of water
*3-10 gallons of unburned gas
*1/2-2 pounds of soot and carbon
*1/4-1 pound of varnish
*1-4 pounds of sulfuric and nitric acid
If the oil does not disperse these contaminants properly into the oil, or if you do not change your oil regularly, the contaminants begin to settle out of the oil resulting in sludge and other damaging deposits.
Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic features “Hyper Cleansing Technology” to ensure that as long as you change your oil based on manufacturer recommendations for your particular engine, Ultra will keep on protecting!
There are different types of formulations of Ultra Synthetic. If you drive a European car, there is a formulation for you. Ditto for diesel engines. Check your owner’s manual for viscosity requirements and for the specification your engine requires.
During a recent trip in the Project Vehicle to New York from Washington, D.C., I saw a gain of nearly 2 mpg in the 4Runner after changing to Ultra from a non-synthetic oil. By the way, Ferrari recommends Ultra Synthetic in its cars. That’s proof enough for me!
So do your “heart” a favor, and treat it to a quality motor oil. Automotive Rhythms recommends the quality oils from Pennzoil.
