2006 Los Angeles Auto Show: Purpose for Passion
The 2007 auto show season debuted early this year. Usually, Detroit kicks off the festive activities surrounding world unveilings by the auto manufacturers. Well, the Los Angeles Auto Show took care of that by moving its media dates to November 29th and 30th. Featuring 23 world debuts and 13 North American debuts consisting of a cadre of drop tops, concepts, coupes and exotics, the show took aim for a purpose of passion.
Nissan kicked off the festivities for Automotive Rhythms by hosting an enjoyable evening of entertainment, social mingling and of course the unveiling of two new vehicles, the all-new Altima Coupe and Sentra SE-R. Slated to launch summer 2007, Nissan’s new performance coupe will come with either a 3.5-liter V6 or 2.5-liter 4 cylinder. While touted as “affordable performance” by Nissan, the Sentra SE-R will be released spring 2007.
Other eye-popping coupes included, Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano, Lotus Exige S, Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG, Jaguar XKR Coupe, Callaway C16, Porsche Targa 4 and GT3, Hyundai Tiburon and Audi’s first mid-engined sports car, the R8. Manifested from the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, the Audi R8 is the inspiration of Audi’s racing technologies and advanced design techniques. With an aerodynamic blueprint, low squat, quattro permanent all-wheel drive, 420-horspower V8 FSI engine, and aluminum space frame, the two-seater coupe is one to keep your eyes on. Now available for ordering, the vehicle will be released the first half of 2007.
If your choice is to ride with access to the open skies then LA had it. The most extreme being the Spyker C8 Spyder. Founded from an aeronautical and racing heritage, Spyker hand builds its vehicles with performance, exclusivity and craftsmanship in mind. The lightweight C8 has an aluminum body and a 4.2-liter 400-horsepower V8 from Audi, which allows it to top out at 187 mph and reach 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The remaining convertibles came from Aston Martin with their V8 Vantage Roadster, Chrysler and the convertible Sebring, the Audi TT Roadster, Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster, and the Jaguar XKR Convertible.
