Dodge Charger, Russ Parr & Motorcycles: Black Bikefest
Beautiful weather, beautiful women, nationally syndicated radio personality Russ Parr, thousands of motorcycles and the release of a legend — the 2006 Dodge Charger. What a way to kick off the Memorial Day weekend and the 25 th anniversary of the Atlantic Beach Bikefest in Myrtle Beach South Carolina!
The Atlantic Beach Bikefest is known for bikes and bikinis, but this year offered even more than the usual eye candy. Two years ago fellow biker Keith Hyman (like many others) had a vision on his way back home from Myrtle Beach. His vision was to provide more than just an opportunity to cruise the strips in search of bikini wearing honeys looking for a ride. However, unlike those with the same vision of taking this event to another level, Hyman and co-founder Larry NeSmith took matters into their own hands and created the National Association of Black Bikers (NABB) and the 2-Wheel Urban Expo. NABB’s mission is to promote unity and safe riding habits among all riders and welcomes bikers of all nationalities. Check ‘em out on the Web for more info at www.nabbweb.org.
After experiencing a few growing pains with last year’s 1 st 2-Wheel Urban Expo, NABB was proud to host the “Unleashing of the All-New 2006 Dodge Charger” during their 2K5 2-Wheel Urban Expo. Not only did they receive sponsorship from Dodge, they also locked down support from DUB, Pirelli, Chrysler Group’s Minority Dealer Division and Denny’s to name a few. Denny’s also stepped up to the plate strong by giving away a custom 2006 Suzuki GXR 1000 – the hottest sportbike on the street (for this year) – tastefully created by Amir Newton, owner of Fantasee Customs. To help create more street excitement (although the car does a great job of this just by looking at it) Dodge enlisted the help of Radio One air personality Russ Parr, whose morning show runs in more than 50 markets, in a sweepstakes to give one lucky person a chance to win this 340-horsepower V8 HEMI engine beast! Check us out in the near future as we bring you our own riding experience with this remake of a muscle car legend from the late 60s.
By the way, the wheel fell off my motorcycle trailer less than 10 minutes after checking into my hotel room and I almost lost the key to my bike the 1 st day! That’s a story within itself and proves how strong the unity of brother and sisterhood within the motorcycle community is, but I digress. Some would take the “challenges” I had as sign. I did. A sign that it was meant for me to be there to bask in the beauty of a hot new car, bikes, and more bikes.
Like I said earlier, what a way to kick off my weekend!
