Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season Tire: Technologically Beyond
I’m from the Northeastern part of the States. I like all four of our changing seasons. When it’s hot, it’s hot. And during the winter, I break out the boots, triple layers of gear, gloves, scarves, and of course big coats. Following a logical progression of thoughts, this means that one would need to swap out those summer performances tires for all season rubber if major inconveniences on the road are to be avoided. Well there’s another solution!
As the company’s tagline infers, Goodyear is trying to help consumers “Get There.” And I mean everywhere. From summer performance driving to winter’s precautionary travels, the largest tire company in North America is making sure drivers are overcompensated in technology with their new recruit, the Eagle F1 All Season Ultra-High Performance Tire. And to overcome heavy duty competition from tier one suppliers like Michelin and Bridgestone, Goodyear elevated the reliability, effectiveness, and performance levels of the Eagle F1 by constructing it with Carbon Fiber Technology, an All Season Zone, TredLock Technology, DuPont KEVLAR, PermaBlack Compounds, a rim protector and dual zone directional tread. I know, it’s a good thing we’re not being quizzed on all of this. It’s like asking Michael Dell what goes onto his PC’s motherboard. Just know that all these great attributes are working in your favor.
To witness firsthand the many claims Goodyear made in regards to their new tire innovations, we headed to the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The sun took a vacation that week and let the rain do its thing. So we didn’t get to drive stock cars as planned, but we did put the Goodyear All Seasons to work in the waterfall track conditions. Home to the Daytona 500, the speedway features high banks where a vehicle must be up to a speed of at least 95 mph to avoid sliding down onto the apron of the 2.5 mile track. Why Daytona? Much of the Eagle F1’s technologies are inherited from Goodyear’s racing products. Man, race tires are just as advanced as the cars themselves. It’s amazing.
To understand the technologies at work, Goodyear had us drive different vehicles with various types of suspensions to evaluate the Eagle F1 All Season versus last year’s big splash, the Eagle ResponsEdge . We drove the Cadillac CTS, Audi TT, Nissan 350Z and more around different road courses to assess the mannerisms of both tires. While both are superior tires, the technologies are a bit different, with the Eagle ResponsEdge using carbon fiber against the outboard sidewall while the inside has normal ride compliant construction for a relaxing ride. The Eagle F1 All Season Eagle uses the high-tech carbon fiber within both sidewalls for a firmer ride. So essentially the buyer knows of the greater performance of the Eagle F1 and that they are sacrificing a little more road comfort. Keep in mind, this tire is not meant for luxury liners.
To be precise, ResponsEdge Technology is designed for the performance touring driver where expectations are 60% ride quality and 40% steering decision. Carbon fiber is strong and light and stiffens a tire’s sidewall. Bob Toth, Goodyear’s marketing manager for auto tires states, “High-performance tires with carbon fiber and KEVLAR offer consumers relevant technologies that enhance the total driving experience. Those drivers are interested in innovative technology, especially if it provides them with responsive handling and a good feel for the road.” Other aforementioned technology includes:
- All Season Zone which helps provide better traction in inclement weather.
- Tredlock Technology with blade-like grooves that lock together for grip in turns and biting edges for all-season traction.
- Ultra High Performance Zone with a center rib and shoulder blocks for excellent handling and steering.
A tire can be so many things to so many different drivers. Some will run on a set of tires until they’re as bald as an Eagle, others need just as much rubber as needed to outfit their upsized rims, and then there are those who want the safety, performance, and reliability of a good tire brand. Good thing the Eagle Performance Package includes:
- 30-day no obligation trial
- Roadside Assistance Program.
- Nationwide warranty service.
- Online DOT registration.
- Goodyear Garage Program (register vehicles at www.goodyeargarage.com to receive tire rotation reminders, new product announcements, valuable savings and more).
Remember, tires are the only contact between your vehicle and the road. Make sure to research the proper size and fitment for your ride!
