Goodyear Eagle with ResponsEdge Technology: A Tire That Thinks
It’s simply amazing that consumers are so out of touch with their vehicle when it relates to the importance of a set of tires. We can go shoe shopping and know exactly the brand, style, and size we need, whether it’s a pair of Nikes or Timberlands. And yes, there are scores of tire makes, models, and sizes for owners to decipher.
“Whether it’s the standard 14-inch tires on the Toyota Yaris, the gigantic 22-inch tires on the Cadillac Escalade, or something in between, there are dozens of possibilities in each category,” according to statements on TireRack.com. “That adds up to a confusing buying process and unexpected costs. What that Escalade buyer may not realize is that a set of replacement tires can cost $1000 or more.” So is it up to tire brands to offer more tire awareness to car buyers or should car buyers take it upon themselves to seek the information? I say a little of both.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is sponsoring a media blitz to promote its latest tire, which has more bells and whistles than your new Dell Laptop. The high-performance Eagle tire, featuring ResponsEdge Technology, will offer drivers comfort and performance with a sporty look. According to TireRack.com, “there's more than just size involved in picking new treads. Some of today’s tires incorporate advanced materials, like carbon fiber and Kevlar, normally found in bulletproof vests.” The new Eagle offers just that and more. First, it features a carbon fiber reinforced sidewall which stiffens the outer sidewall for more response. Carbon fiber is a light and strong material usually reserved for the many forms of racing. Secondly, underneath the treads of the tire you’ll find shock-absorbing InsuLayer made from DuPont Kevlar which helps keep road noise to a minimum. Then, the design of the tire’s thread is asymmetric with an outer High-Performance Zone for handling and an inner All-Season Zone for adverse weather conditions. And, the Eagle protects your rims with a rubber “Bead Protector” which protrudes further out.
To evaluate the tires, Goodyear held a drive program at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Arizona. The test vehicles were the BMW 3-Series and Cadillac’s CTS. We drove vehicles on public roads and on the test course at Bondurant. Going through the slalom, the Eagles stuck like glue. In fact, the tires did exactly what Goodyear said they would do.
The Eagle featuring ResponsEdge Technology fits wheels from 15” to 18” and are made for many luxury performance vehicles. As part of the Eagle Performance Package, owners receive a 30-day no obligation trial period, roadside Assistance, nationwide warranty service, and the Goodyear “garage” program.
