THE BRITS GO GLAM - LAND ROVER'S CUSTOMIZED RANGE ROVER SPORT DOES VEGAS
LAS VEGAS – SEMA, Las Vegas’ end-all-be-all for the auto enthusiast, is no longer the exclusive showcase of tricked-out tuners and classic muscle cars. At this year’s show, the battle for best of show included a new breed from across the pond. The Range Rover Sport became the first Land Rover product to appear at the annual Specialty Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (SEMA) show. But this native Brit brought a distinctly American vibe to Sin City’s Convention Center show floor.
The Sistine Chapel had Michelangelo; the Range Rover Sport has Troy Lee Designs, a major supplier and designer of premium motorcycle, ATV, and bicycle competition apparel. Troy Lee designs conceived and executed the 10-stage painting process, which was completed at Southern California’s Faerber Productions, Land Rover’s long-time product development partner.
 The bright lights and glitz of Vegas were the inspiration for the custom Range Rover Sport Supercharged, which took a mind-boggling 250 hours to complete. From the three coats of House of Kolor™ black paint for the base color and 12 karat white gold leaf for the Range Rover lettering, to the use of sexy Vegas-esque colors like Tru Blu Metallic, Candy Tangerine and Cherry Pearl, the end result is a one-of-a-kind whip that is right at home on the Vegas strip.
“At this year’s SEMA show, Land Rover wanted to celebrate the success of the Range Rover Sport launch,” said Land Rover Brand Manager Greg Gilliland. “The driving concept was a Range Rover Sport for Las Vegas.” The 2006 Range Rover Sport’s interior is complete with hand-painted Candy Apple Red trim, and a customized, ultra-premium 1000-watt harman/kardon® LOGIC7™ audio system.
 
“Land Rover wanted a vehicle uniquely designed for Las Vegas, so I got out the spray guns and went for it,” said Troy Lee, owner Troy Lee Designs. “ The result is a Range Rover Sport with a scheme inspired by the ‘technicolors’ of Vegas.”
