South by Southwest 2012 was the same annual event that’s taken place for years in Austin, TX. This year, aside from the rain and what seemed like an endless stream of attendees and no place for the city to put them, it was the same old same old. But it wasn’t old. As with every SXSW festival, new technology, fun products, advertising campaigns and even cool vehicles made their debut in the stale Texas heat.
2012 was the year we saw a cadre of location-based applications jump onto smartphones all over the place. We also witnessed Chevrolet take a bigger role in the merriment with free rides from the airport, to and from SXSW venues and they even hosted a music stage area and a Tweethouse event at Mellow Johnny’s on the other side of town. The food (delicious), the people (crazy in their enthusiasm and clothing), and the city (welcoming as always) made this another festival not to be missed.
While the next SXSW is a year away, we’re sure it will bring a whole slew of novelty, innovation and fun to a lot of technology, social media and marketing geeks who descend on a little Texas town in March 2013.
