Automaker’s activities surrounding the 14th annual race includes appearances by Olympian Kara Goucher
Nissan is gearing up for an increased involvement with the St. Jude Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon, which returns to Nashville on Saturday, April 27. The partnership between Nissan and the race, which is entering its fifth consecutive year, includes presenting sponsorship of the half-marathon. In addition, the 2013 Nissan Maxima will serve as the official Marathon pace car, one of the 22 Nissan vehicles involved in the race.
As part of Nissan’s continued commitment to the event, the automaker’s Innovation for Endurance solar-powered trailer will be on display at both the Health & Fitness Expo and Finish Line Festival. The Innovation for Endurance trailer allows consumers to experience new Nissan vehicles, participate in a running challenge, design their own Nissan t-shirt and enter for a chance to win the all-new Nissan Pathfinder.
The Health & Fitness Expo at the Nashville Convention Center is free and open to the public from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. CST on Thursday April 25 and 10 a.m.–7 p.m. CST Friday, April 26. The Finish Line Festival will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 7 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at LP Field.
Olympic marathoner Kara Goucher will make a number of appearances over the weekend as part of the Nissan Innovation for Endurance campaign. Goucher will host a Race Day Tips Seminar presented by Nissan on Friday, April 26 from 3–4 p.m. CST at the Health & Fitness Expo. Goucher will also sign autographs at the Nissan Innovation for Endurance trailer on Friday, April 26 from 3–5 p.m. at the Expo and again on Saturday, April 27 from 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the Finish Line Festival.
Nashville-area Nissan employees will also play a big role in the 14th annual race as nearly 400 employees from the company’s North American headquarters in nearby Franklin, Tenn. will participate in the marathon or half-marathon on Saturday. In addition, over 100 Nissan employees, friends and family are volunteering at the Nissan Water Station along the course on Saturday.
“Helping foster the healthy lifestyle of its employees and customers is important to Nissan, and we are excited to celebrate the fifth year of our partnership with the St. Jude Country Music Marathon and ½ Marathon this year,” said Jon Brancheau, vice president, marketing, Nissan North America. “Through its participation in the Health & Fitness Expo, Nissan is able to offer thousands of running enthusiasts from Nashville and across the globe with the opportunity to experience Nissan vehicles that fit their active lifestyles, such as the 2013 Nissan Altima and 2013 Nissan Rogue.”
“We’re thankful to have a great partner in Nissan and their commitment to this event has lead to another year of success for both companies,” said Sean Clottu, Vice President of Sales Development & Activation at Competitor Group. “Given Nissan’s North America headquarters is in the Nashville area, this is a significant market for them to support the local community and reinforce their passion for fitness and performance. We look forward to working together to develop new and innovative ways to engage participants through memorable event experiences and support runners on the completion of this significant milestone.”
Both the St. Jude Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon presented by Nissan begin at 7 a.m. CST on Saturday, April 27 at Nashville’s Centennial Park. From there, the course continues through the heart of Nashville, passing iconic area locations such as Belmont University, the Tennessee State Capitol Building, Shelby Park and the Cumberland River before finishing at LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans.
