2013 Volvo S60 T6 AWD: Trusted Safety with Sporty Performance

It never fails. On the majority of occasions when picking up a vehicle for long-term review, inevitably there is some level of inclement weather ensuing right away. Rain, sleet or snow, none of which are obviously ideal conditions for convertibles has happened for example. This time around I was faced with freezing rain and wet snow in the Maryland area in late December. However I didn’t mind the forecast at all. Why you may ask? Because I was comfortably positioned with the latest addition to Automotive Rhythms’ long-term vehicle fleet dubbed the 2013 Volvo S60 T6 AWD.

With Volvo’s stellar reputation for safety combined with all-wheel-drive technology and its Instant Traction system, I was eager to put the Swedish sport sedan and family-carriage through its paces. The 3-liter 325-horsepower turbocharged 6-cylinder was most thrilling. Given the slippery conditions, a private roadway consisting of straight lines and sweeping curves provided the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the S60’s capabilities. I was immediately impressed with our newcomer’s graceful power and undisturbed handling. The Corner Traction Control permitted me to cling to corners while confidently remaining in command, thus making the holiday trip over the hills and through the woods to grandmother’s house a piece of (red velvet) cake.

The S60 TS AWD comes with a host of standard safety features including a seatbelt reminder system indicating which passenger has not yet buckled up and Volvo’s whiplash protection system (WHIPS) for the driver and front passenger. The rear passengers are protected with an inflatable curtain and side impact protection system. This is in addition to a safe approach and home safe perimeter lighting system, particularly useful when walking to your vehicle in a dimly lit area.

With a base MSRP of $43,900 our vehicle tips the scale at $48,195 with the added S60 Platinum Package consisting of a navigation system, climate package, premium sound system and rear park assist. Stay tuned for Automotive Rhythms’ extended evaluation as we journey through the winter with the S60.
