It was a beautiful spring day in Virginia at River Farm today to experience the attributes of the significantly re-engineered Mazda6 Signature model during WAPA’s May ride and drive. Trust me, for $36,435 (starts at $21,950) Mazda is giving its loyalists much more than an engine, wheels and steel body. This Japanese sports sedan is loaded with comfort features, advanced technologies and conveniences for modern gentlemen and women.
On the road the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is spirited enough for quick starts and steady acceleration. The engine produces 227-horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and is paired with the SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and true sport mode capabilities. A non-turbo is also available. My Soul Red Crystal Mazda6 was also blessed with sporty 19” alloy spins. A few standard features include G-Vectoring Control for optimized dynamics from the refined suspension, LED headlamps, MAZDA CONNECT multimedia system and dual automatic climate control. Expect 23 city and 31 highway mpg.
But most impressive is the premium look and feel of the cabin since it’s designed with premium materials. I’ve spent a great amount of time in Japan to witness the attention to detail from their bathrooms to their temples to their cars. So it didn’t surprise me that the Mazda6 is invigorated with Deep Chestnut Nappa leather, UltraSuede trim, Japanese Sen wood touches (used for the traditional Taiko drums) and new, ventilated seats. The 11-speaker Bose surround sound also kept me elevated as I paid homage to the 40th anniversary of Bob Marley’s Kaya album.
Safety is always on the brain of Mazda techs in many forms such as smart City Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Hill Launch Assist, Radar Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition and much more! My Mazda experience this afternoon was fulfilled by an amazing vehicle, strong friendship and a divine setting.
