It’s time to say goodbye to one of the last naturally-aspirated RWD performance sedans on the market as Lexus prepares a proper sendoff to the IS 500 with the limited run Ultimate Edition. Only 500 units of the Lexus legend will be sold in North America, making this exclusive model a potential collector’s item.
The IS is uber popular by the numbers since 1.3 million units were sold globally in two decades. For the 2025 model year, the exclusive IS 500 Ultimate Edition reforms the IS 500 F SPORT Performance label by offering more dimensions. The 4-door coupe will run the table utilizing a robust 5.0-liter V8 boasting 472-horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, upgraded 6-piston front aluminum Brembo calipers, and lightweight 19” forged alloy BBS rims finished in a matte black coating. The V8 pairs with the existing 8-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission.
Also unique to the Ultimate Edition is a novel F SPORT exclusive metallic gray exterior paint dubbed Wind, which Lexus says elicits a sense of “agility and motion.” The interior remains relatively unchanged, but features a Circuit Red and Black theme and a mix of NuLuxe leather and Ultrasuede seat trim. Its racing steering wheel is borrowed from the LFA as is the shift knob. Both are finished in dimple-textured genuine leather. Other select touches include a serialized number badge, red seatbelts, and an Ultimate Edition startup animation emanating from the Lexus Multi-Information Display.
Lastly, the 2025 IS 500 Ultimate Edition is equipped with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. Pricing will be announced closer to the sale date this fall. While the future for the IS is uncertain, we can at least enjoy the benefits of this exciting new variant on the streets and the track.
