Dodge’s Electric Muscle Car Era Begins with the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona

By Leon Brittan

I sincerely hope you had time to mourn the end of the HEMI V8 Charger era as plugs and batteries have begun to replace gas-fed horses. Dodge has been slowly transitioning into the EV world but is now hitting the target ferociously. However, the styling of the electric Charger is too bland for our taste and leaves more to desire. The Dodge brand should have utilized aggression and futuristic keystones to define this all-new e-muscle car platform.

Currently offered in two distinct models, the all-wheel drive 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack and 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will become Dodge’s first-ever all-electric vehicle. The automaker says the Scat Pack is the world’s fastest quarter-mile electric muscle car. Producing 670-horsepower, this model is anticipated to reach 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. The Charger Daytona R/T gets around with 496-horsepower. But hope is not lost for those resisting the EV movement as future Chargers will also come with a gas-powered 550-horsepower SIXPACK H.O. and the 420-horsepower SIXPACK S.O., enhanced by the company’s 3-liter Twin Turbo I-6 Hurricane engine. I recently felt the power and acceleration of the Hurricanes in the 2025 RAM 1500 and was highly impressed!

“The electrified 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack delivers Charger Hellcat Redeye levels of performance and announces its presence through the world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, while Hurricane engine-powered Dodge Charger SIXPACK models will give the Brotherhood of Muscle a gas option that produces better horsepower and torque numbers than the outgoing 5.7 and 6.4-liter HEMI engines,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer – Stellantis. “The next generation of Dodge muscle has arrived.”

Essential Charger Daytona technologies to go along with the 400V propulsion system — 100.5 kW high-voltage battery pack with prismatic structured battery cells – include a driver-focused cockpit with 64-color Attitude Adjustment interior lighting and 10.25” or 16” cluster screens with a 12.3” center screen, digitized exhaust sounds from the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, a PowerShot that delivers 40-horsepower for 15 seconds when activated, large 16” Brembo vented rotors and red 6-piston front/4-piston rear fixed calipers, staggered Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 305 front/325 rear performance tires, and race mode options consisting of Donut Mode, Drift Mode, and two unique Race Prep options. However, we inquired with over 50 Charger and Challenger owners regarding the digital exhaust notes and only 5% were open to it. This group prefers heavy horses and wicked rumbles.

A patent-pending front R-Wing, exclusive to Charger Daytona models, is a callout to the original Charger Daytona design while enabling air to flow through a front pass-through area to enhance downforce.

Expect more than 317 miles of range for the Charger Daytona R/T and 260 miles from the Daytona Scat Pack. Charger models will offer optional Level 2 wall-charging units or public charging credits available through Free2Move Charge, a 360-degree ecosystem launched in 2023 by Stellantis. Production for all-electric two-door coupe versions of the Charger Daytona Scat Pack and R/T will begin mid-2024. Dodge will start manufacturing the all-electric four-door Scat Pack and R/T models in the first quarter of 2025.

Are you ready for an electric-powered muscle car from Dodge? Times are certainly changing!
