Exploring Southern Arizona in Hyundai’s Adventurous 2022 Tucson SUV

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

Although the Coronavirus Pandemic is far from over, there are a few opportunities of freedom to get away if proper judgment and decision-making take precedence. With that in mind, why not plan an excursion to Tucson, Arizona to revel in its idyllic mountain backdrops, take in the gorgeous weather, or schedule an array of family lifestyle activities while cruising about the local topography in the freshly-styled 2022 Hyundai Tucson SUV. The peaceful solitude, revitalizing self-care activities, and Sonoran Desert exploration translated into relief for me after a year of mostly household isolation.

For accommodations to relax at, chose the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort nestled within the Santa Catalina Mountains at 7000 N Resort Drive, Tucson, Arizona. It offers a fabulous fitness center which I utilized daily, two outdoor heated pools with hot tubs, two golf courses, tennis courts, and trails to energize the body and free the spirit.

After enjoying the amenities of Loews, feel free to break out in Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle for a 4.3-mile drive to Sabino Canyon Recreation Area for an extended hike, walk, or bike ride along the 30 miles of trails. It gets hot out here, so after exploration with nature, you will undoubtedly feel back at home in the spacious, intriguing cabin and gifted physique of the Korean compact SUV. “We pursue innovative solutions in design and add emotional value to our product experience through our Sensuous Sportiness design identity,” said SangYup Lee, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Global Design Center.

To help traverse to your favorite active lifestyle spots, it’s capable of light off-road work utilizing the vehicle’s 50/50  torque split HTRAC AWD, as we discovered on the beaten path.  With a longer wheelbase, angular dimensions, chiseled cross taillights, sassy wheel styles, and headlights that mesh with the captivating grille to resemble angelic wings, the Tucson is refreshing viewing.

By now, you should have worked up an appetite, so steer the next-generation Tucson towards  Arizona Zipline Adventures for lunch and views from above. Bean burgers, a salad, and vegan cookies at Peppersauce kitchen were on the menu, in addition to the Zipline EcoTour to experience the Sonoran Desert from a new perspective. It’s interesting because as I was pulling up, I witnessed fellow nomads above me scurrying line to line from the vehicle’s extended, two-piece moonroof. And if parking is tight, enact the Remote Smart Park Assist feature to maneuver the Tucson into its designated parking space while you are standing outside. The 8-speaker Bose audio system with a subwoofer was ideal for my cultural reggae vibes during the longer segments of my drives, and the 10.25″  all-touchscreen and push-button transmission catapulted the new Hyundai model into the future. However, I still require a volume and channel seek knob for satisfaction.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is available with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. They comprise the 2.5-liter GDI and 8-speed automatic transmission, a turbocharged 1.6T HEV and 6-speed automatic transmission, and a turbocharged 1.6T PHEV and 6-speed automatic transmission. Both the gas engine and hybrid provide smooth and compliant rides, but I would like a bit more power for acceleration. Hyundai says that the hybrid is 30% more fuel-efficient while delivering 20% additional torque over the gasoline model. In addition, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) furnishes owners with 32 all-electric miles and can fully rejuvenate in two hours with a level-2 charger. Pricing starts at $24,950 for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.

While exploring the nuances of the Grand Canyon State, visitors should take solace in Hyundai’s safety focus that includes standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Auto High Beam, Driver Attention Warning, and Rear Occupant Alert. My next stop was an hour’s drive to Biosphere 2 by the University of Arizona, where visitors experience the scientific research of Earth’s global challenges due to human interference. The unique rainforest habitat at Biosphere 2, for example, exemplifies weather control variables as researchers collect empirical data on tropical forests. How fascinating!

Visitors to Southern Arizona can also fill up their itinerary with additional activities and destinations, such as visiting the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Saguaro National Park, Tucson Botanical Garden, Pima Air & Space Museum, San Xavier del Bac, Old Tucson Studios, or Tohono Chul Park. I ended my last evening in peace and serenity while relishing one of the best plant-based dinners at the Loews in recent moments.

Thank you, Arizona and Hyundai for the memories!
