Genesis G90 Black Executive Sports Sedan: Distinctly Korean

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

During a recent visit to South Korea, Automotive Rhythms witnessed greatness in the form of the exclusive Genesis G90 Black at the Genesis Suji retail center. The sinister executive sports sedan represents “Athletic Elegance” in every respect. Each feature is “Blacked Out” including the 21” Dark Sputtering rims wrapped in Michelin rubber, G-matrix crest grille, front insignia, brake calipers, and cabin knobs.

For connoisseurs of sporty, luxuriant sedans, the Genesis representative will compete admirably with the Lexus LS, Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Porsche Panamera, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a starting price of $99,920. More impressive is that the vehicle is complete from the inside out and needs no further implementation unless you desire the optional First Class VIP Seats and sunroof. Its exterior hue is dubbed Vik Black to represent a Pure Black brought to life with Black Diamond Pearl particles.

Even with subtle lines that Genesis designers describe as the harmony required to get along with nature, the G90 Black sits as confident as the Army’s Black Knights. It’s powered by a gasoline 3.5-turbo 48V electric supercharger engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD. Rear-wheel steering provides more maneuverability, and the Preview Electronic Control Suspension and Multi-Chamber Air Suspension take over the G80 Black’s road mannerisms for compliant coasting.

Inside the all-black cockpit, owners will find semi-aniline leather covering and quilting, natural wood garnish, aluminum speaker grilles, and black dials and switches. The central control panel and two controllers are also black. The garnishes are decorated with brass-themed shapes inspired by traditional handicrafts to create a unique ambiance. Music lovers will specifically appreciate the 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premiere 3D sound system operated from the 12.3-inch display.

The design philosophy utilizes eco-friendly materials to help Genesis continue its focus on sustainable luxury. For instance, the vehicle’s exclusive car mats are made by extracting cellulose from beech trees instead of petroleum plastics. Non-toxic solvents and plant-derived, eco-friendly substances are further used for passenger health. Flax and rapeseed oils are also utilized as natural softeners and applied to the leather for eco-friendly processing.

Eventually, all Genesis models will receive a rendition of the Black package, and other contrasting colors will be highlighted. In South Korea the volume is small with 300 to 400 units produced annually. Thankfully, Genesis is highly considering bringing the G90 Black to America. Please do as we’ll be patiently awaiting!
