Independent Car Wash Operators Team Up With Rotary Clubs to Bring Clean Drinking Water to Communities Worldwide

The Auto Spas of Maryland

The Auto Spas of Maryland are excited about a new vehicle—one that provides clean drinking water to people throughout the world. In a show of solidarity with the Wash Away Thirst campaign, The Auto Spas will join approximately 100 car wash locations across the U.S. to provide to five million days of clean drinking water to people in need. The fundraising initiative, created in partnership with the Wasrag Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group, aims to reduce the proportion of the world population lacking sanitation and clean water.

“Nearly one billion people lack access to clean drinking water and every day, 5,000 children under the age of five will die as a result,” said Ellsworth Havens, Wasrag Development Chair. “We are excited to have a network of community-based businesses to help educate Americans about the critical need for clean water.”

Wash Away Thirst is a one-for-one-for-one campaign, which means that every wash gives one day of clean water to one thirsty person. The Auto Spas will make a donation to Wasrag for every car washed during the campaign. Individuals can support this philanthropic endeavor each time they visit one of the participating Auto Spas from now through December 31, 2012.

“Clean, safe water is a fundamental need around the globe,” said John Gay, Managing Partner of The Auto Spa. “Water safety and conservation are not just industry concerns, they’re global concerns, and this is an opportunity for independent car wash operators to educate our communities and bring clean drinking water to developing countries.”

In the spirit of giving, it truly takes so little to do so much. According to Jim Dudley, the founder of Wash Away Thirst, the program will “provide Americans with the opportunity to make a difference in others’ lives by doing something as simple as washing their car.”
