It must be nice being Oprah. Corporate brands clamor to her like kids appeal to gifts on birthdays. VW decided to utilize her powerful appeal, media empire and consumer outreach to reveal the contour of the all-new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. By the looks of it, the iconic vehicle sports a new shape — less bubbly — and appears to be stretched, especially the hood. Oprah knows best; she’s currently driving one of the new Beetles. And if you were lucky enough to have attended the show in person today, then it looks like Christmas came early as 275 studio members receive a 2012 Beetle, taxes and fees included!
“Oprah Winfrey and the Volkswagen Beetle are two American icons, so when the “Oprah” show approached us with this incredible opportunity to share her Beetle experience with deserving viewers, we instantly wanted to be a part of it,” said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “Our all-new 2012 Beetle exemplifies power, styling and sophistication, and is an automotive icon reinvented to create the new shape of performance.”
VW says the new Beetle will feature a sportier stance, sleeker styling and a wealth of new technologies that provide an advanced driving experience. It is also customizable and should appeal to a broader audience. Expect to physically see the vehicle sometime in the spring with a purchase date currently slated for next fall. It is packaged with 19” rims, dual exhausts, sports seats, branded audio system, cool ambient lighting and much more.
Congrats to all the lucky winners!
