Blue skies, balmy mid 80-degree weather, and an occasional rain drizzle was the setting throughout our road trip to Myrtle Beach for the 2012 Atlantic Beach Bike Fest. The journey kicked off at Victory Motorcycles for the Victory VIP Connect for the Cause reception which presented me with the opportunity to mingle many new individuals within the motorcycle community; learn more about the “Bikers Against Breast Cancer” campaign; and of course to meet with the originators of Atlantic Beach Bike Week, the Carolina Knight Riders.
The action began when Myrtle West Customs blessed Atlantic Beach Bike Fest with a stunt show that wowed the crowd from Ryan Lanier, William Allen aka “Wild Bill” and Jonathan Caldwell aka “Jon Beezi.” This gesture was appreciated by all. The Atlantic Beach Bike Fest attracted bikers from all over including those arriving on custom sportbikes, fat tires, cruisers and in tricked out cars and SUVs. The sounds of aftermarket exhausts were heard from sun up to sun down, and traffic was atrocious on Ocean Blvd a.k.a “the strip” due to all the suspension lift kit cars and SUVs descending onto the two lane road. Riders rarely travel this road anymore because of this very reason. Motorcycles now travel Highway 17 along with other back roads. As bikers, we like to ride and not sit in traffic while our bikes overheats.
All in all it was one of the best Atlantic Beach Bike Fests I’ve been a part of with good friends, plenty of events, parties and BIKES!!! See you next year.
