Is it time to shop around at brand new pickups? Many buyers – even those who love full-sized beasts — are now considering one of the most affordable (base MSRP $20,995 + $875 dealer freight charge) and best mid-sized trucks anywhere for fuel efficiency, performance, comfort, trailering, technology and safety: the all-new 2015 Chevy Colorado.
Available this fall, the 2015 Chevy Colorado (and its cousin the 2015 GMC Canyon) portends to be one of the best overall pickup trucks ever built. Now – with truck twins the Colorado and the Canyon – GM is set to take the top spot away from Toyota’s Tacoma in North America. But why is Colorado such big news and may be making Toyota (and Honda and Nissan) rather nervous? GM claims this all-new truck is expected to deliver “class-leading power, payload and trailering ratings.” Plus, GM executives have assured this professional road test reviewer that the 2015 Colorado will take the best-in-class trophy when it comes to fuel efficiency scores, which have yet to be formally released. Let’s just hope the vehicles do not have any recall issues which has plagued GM lately.
Here’s quick look at why the Chevy Colorado is making auto tongues wag at the overall best buy in its category:
Chevy Colorado Configurations & Performance
The 2015 Chevy Colorado comes available in three configurations: a 152.4 cm crew cab, a 182.88 cm crew cab and a 182.88 cm extended cab. Chevrolet claims its new Colorado will be the most fuel efficient and powerful truck in the midsized segment with a 3,039 kg trailering capacity (2WD or 4WD options available). The Colorado comes standard with a 2.5-liter standard and six-speed automatic transmission. It can also be equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 power plant.
Chevy Colorado’s Sporty Exterior
Sporty and youthful, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado definitely looks both confident and athletic with just enough American bravado to make this new midsized truck highly attractive. The beefy blacked-out grille and silver-lined headlamps give the Colorado a fierce contemporary look as the sculpted side lines are quite bodacious. Tall bedsides make the Chevy Colorado a utilitarian hauler. Other cool cargo features include a “corner step” rear bumper, easy-lift tail gate, two-tier loading and 13 tie-down locations with moveable cargo tie-ins.
Chevy Colorado Interior & Technology
The 2015 Chevy Colorado is especially a good fit for couples and families as its smaller-than-full-size interior works well for daily commuters and recreation fanatics. The Colorado’s luxurious interior DNA was taken from the award-winning Silverado. It includes a 8.73 cm drive information screen, a 20.32 cm color touch screen, a large central console (with room to charge a digital tablet) and a floor-mounted shifter. Stain-resistant cloth seating comes standard while leather-appointed seating is an available option. With an optional upgrade to Chevy’s award-winning infotainment technology, MyLink, the Colorado becomes an inner sanctum of advanced integrated connectivity.
Chevy Colorado Safety
The Chevy Colorado comes with a stunning array of standard advanced safety features including GM’s latest OnStar generation technology, six air bags, rear view camera, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, electronic stability control, rollover mitigation, trailer sway control, hill start assist and hill descent control.
