Electric and rugged are not usually adjectives that align with one another. Yet Toyota continues to offer trendy, fun-to-drive, electrified crossovers for active individuals who prefer plug-in power to gasoline. Enter the 2026 bZ Woodland adventurer, energized by two electric motors that push out a system-combined 375-horsepower. The AWD EV allows Toyota to combine electrical engineering with off-road capabilities, a rarity in the auto industry.
If you’re wondering, bZ stands for “beyond zero,” meaning zero emissions. The symbolism reflects an Earth-conscious ideology in which carbon-free mobility and sustainable materials become the norm. What’s interesting is that Toyota is pushing full steam ahead with battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) while many industry counterparts are pushing back due to lower sales, the dissolution of the $7,500 federal tax credit, higher EV prices driven by battery costs, and general disinterest for numerous reasons. Toyota now offers 21 electrified models, including BEV, Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (California-only) powertrains. Impressive!

The Woodland trim is Toyota’s lifestyle solution for people who enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, and hitting the trails. It offers 8.4” of ground clearance, all-weather floor and cargo rubber mats, black roof rails, heated and ventilated SoftTex trimmed seats that thoughtfully replace the reliance upon leather, and X-MODE with Grip Control for venturing onto the beaten path. The 18” black alloy rims can be paired with the optional zero-cost Dunlop Grandtrek all-terrain (A/T) 30T tires in size 235/65 R18, while the Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor shows you what the vehicle is doing. The Dunlops A/Ts are designed for light off-roading in dirt, sand, or mud, but I would immediately swap them for BF Goodrich KO3 A/Ts if I purchased a bZ Woodland, as they are a far superior tire.
“We designed the bZ Woodland out of a desire for a BEV that fits a wide range of lifestyles,” says Toyota Midsize BEV Chief Engineer Masaya Uchiyama. “Many want great utility in their BEV, so we designed it to carry over 70 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded flat, gave it roof rails, and equipped it with optional all-terrain tires so it lives up to its rugged style.”

There is nothing like the quiet acceleration from all-electric torque! Powered by its two electric motors the bZ Woodland accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Its range is 281 miles with all-season tires, but drops to 260 miles with A/Ts. It also has a 3,500-lb towing capacity.
Inside, you will find various amenities depending on the trim level. Toyota highlights the cabin with a thick, multifunctional steering wheel that hosts regenerative paddle shifters, large dials, a 7” Digital Gauge Cluster, the 14” Toyota Audio Multimedia system built in-house, dual Qi wireless charging pads, and four USB-C ports. The Premium model also adds the 9-speaker JBL premium audio system (subwoofer and amplifier) and a fixed panoramic glass roof. Yet, I prefer opening and closing sunroofs.
At the rear, the hands-free power liftgate opens to the cargo area, which has been increased by 6 inches. Under-floorboard cargo storage is handy for supplies, and a 1500W AC outlet is available to power small equipment.

Data shows that EV owners will charge 80% of the time at home. Thus, if you are considering joining the electric revolution, then contemplate a home charging station as well. I installed a ChargePoint Home Flex outside my garage to power Automotive Rhythms’ EV media test fleet. Public charging is fine at times, but it is highly inconvenient, especially when it’s cold out! However, the bZ Woodland’s 74.7 kWh Lithium-Ion Traction battery supports DC fast charging, which takes about 30 minutes.
Of course, all Toyotas are punctuated by safety features to keep you as secure as humanly possible, and the bZ is no different. If I were to enumerate all the protection attributes of the updated packages and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the list would be bountiful. A few of them include Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, and Lane Tracing Assist.

If you want to bring this specific Toyota home, expect to pay the MSRP of $45,300 plus an additional $1,450 in transportation and processing fees. The Premium model starts at $47,400. More importantly, the 2026 bZ Woodland comes with complimentary ToyotaCare, which covers your vehicle’s scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles and provides 3 years of complimentary Roadside Assistance.
Color choices include Stepping Stone, Halo, Steel, Pavement, Raven Black, and Trueno Blue. Expect the bZ Woodland to arrive in dealerships next month (March 2026). Are you ready to explore adventure places?
