Preview of the All-New 2024 BMW 5 Series

By Leon Brittain

The formula for success continues with the introduction of the 8th generation 2024 BMW 5 Series sports sedan which welcomes more splendor, luxury, digital tech, and comfort. With 10 million models sold globally since 1973, the elevation of The 5 is an achievement in the brand’s history. Now, the icon is available in all-electric form as the BMW i5 M60 xDrive with 590 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, and an estimated 256-mile range. The second e-model is the BMW i5 eDrive40 with 335 hp and an estimated 295-mile range.

Built at BMW Group’s luxury class vehicle plant in Dingolfing, Germany, BMW will launch the 2024 5 Series beginning October 2023 with the following price points:

  • 530i at $57,900 + $995 destination and handling
  • 530i xDrive at $60,200 + $995 destination and handling
  • i5 eDrive40 at $66,800 + $995 destination and handling
  • i5 M60 xDrive at $84,100 + $995 destination and handling
  • 540i xDrive at $64,900 + $995 destination and handling

The stately 5 Series grew with a 3.4” length extension, 1.3″ width, and 1.4″ height increase. Rear seating is more comforting with an increased wheelbase of 0.8.” Stylistically inspired by the so-called “Sharknose” of early 5 Series generations, the front fascia is highlighted by BMW’s twin headlights and a modern interpretation of the signature, nearly upright BMW kidney grille. The color palette will feature one solid finish, nine metallics, and three BMW Individual hues including two Frozen shades.

An M Sport Package is optional for all variants (except i5 M60 xDrive) to show off the athleticism of the 5 Series. The package includes M-specific elements, large air intakes, flared side skirts, window trim in high-gloss black, a rear apron with a diffuser insert, and 19” M light alloy rims. Then there is the M Sport Professional package with an illuminated BMW kidney grille framed in high-gloss black, M Shadowline headlights, a discreet rear spoiler, and Extended Shadowline trim. Red calipers for the M Sport brakes are available with the M Sport Professional package.

Inside, the 5 Series cockpit is inspired by the BMW Curved Display that joins a 12.3” Information Display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9” Control Display empowered by BMW iDrive 8.5. The BMW Interaction Bar makes its way over from the 7 Series into the 5 Series with various illumination and specific touch controls for ventilation, air conditioning, and activating the hazard warning lights. A full leather-free interior using a perforated Veganza material layers the seats, dashboard, door panels, and steering wheel. Adding the M Sport Package to your 5 Series incorporates an exclusive Veganza/Alcantara finish with unique perforation, red and blue translucent accents, M pedals, an M driver’s footrest, and M-specific displays on the Information Display. Lastly, a panoramic Sky Lounge Roof is available on the 5 Series for the first time.

The sporty 2024 BMW 5 Series provides all the utensils needed for a full-course drive. Yesterday it was a vision; today it’s a reality. And still, there are more 5 Series renditions to come including the venerable M5, so stay tuned!
