2023 EQS 450 4MATIC SUV: All-Electric Grand Touring

Experienced by Leon Brittain

Welcome to the 2023 EQS 450 4MATIC SUV, the all-electric S-Class of SUVs for Mercedes-EQ. Our stately grand tourer features aerodynamic illuminated running boards, a Mercedes star-logo EV grille, 21” 5-spoke, black-accented rims, Mercedes star-patterned logo projectors, and a panoramic roof. You also receive 10-degree rear-axle steering for dynamic driving and optimized parking maneuverability.

I must say, this supreme-riding EV is one of the best I have ever tested. My EQS felt like it was sailing on clouds thanks to 4MATIC AWD, an AIRMATIC air suspension with an Adaptive Damping System, 355-horsepower, and DYNAMIC SELECT with INDIVIDUAL drive modes. Additionally, the EQS 450 SUV 4MATIC produces 285 miles of range on paper, but I’ve been seeing 311 miles after fully restoring the 200 kW DC fast charging system, which will in turn, re-energize your EQS from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes. The powertrain also features adjustable regenerative braking through left and right steering wheel paddles.

Once inside the luxury cabin, highlights include leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, 64-color ambient lighting, and a Burmester 3D Sound System with Sound Personalization, Dolby Atmos, and beautiful speaker grilles. The EQS SUV is bestowed with forward-thinking amenities that are both comforting and tech-savvy. A few of these include a large, intuitive Head-up Display, augmented reality navigation, and the latest generation of MBUX and its 12.8″ OLED multimedia touchscreen. Owners and guests will also be delighted by Hey Mercedes, the most intelligent voice assistant in the business. It tuned into my reggae music of choice, closed the sunroof shade, found detailed locations to navigate to, looked up subject matter bio information, and changed the ambient lighting upon request. And finally, pillow headrests and deep massaging seats will turn any stressful drive into a blissful one.

Understanding charging options is paramount if you purchase an EV. Since data shows that EV owners will conduct 80% of charging at home, the first step is to buy and install a Level 2 unit like the ChargePoint Home Flex. Publicly, Mercedes me Charge offers additional benefits as it provides owners convenient charging station usage from various providers and two years of complimentary charging, including fast charging sessions. In fact, Mercedes-Benz has accelerated infrastructure development to make life easier through a partnership with ChargePoint and its Level 3 DC fast charging stations. With completion expected by 2027, the high-speed network will consist of 400 hubs with more than 2,500 high-power chargers, including a large number of 350 kW chargers.

Built in the US at the Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant, MSRP pricing for the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is $107,400. A 3rd row is optional for bringing extra family or friends along. For more performance out of your EQS SUV, tap into the Acceleration Increase On-Demand upgrade that adds 80 horsepower and faster acceleration through Over-the-Air updates by going to the Mercedes me connect Store. It is available with the option of a one-time $2,950 purchase for the vehicle’s lifetime or the flexibility of monthly and yearly options.

The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is scientifically unique with quintessential innovation. The future of transportation through Mercedes-EQ advancements in digital technologies, EV development, and forward-thinking is looking bright. Sustainable innovations are nobly playing their part in ensuring that the electrification of mobility is progressive, efficient, and widespread.
