All-Electric 2026 BMW iX Takes the Stand at Amelia 2025

By Kimatni D. Rawlins

I still recall the explosive thrills and excitement driving the all-electric BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) when I first took the wheel of a 2023 model. It was quick, enthusiastic, and dynamic. Thus, I expect nothing less from the latest Ultimate Electric Driving Machine.

Ignited by dual electric motors from 5th-generation BMW eDrive technology, the high-performing 2026 iX M70 xDrive incorporates up to 650-horsepower, upgraded M-specific design details, and 749 lb.-ft. of torque. If Launch Control is activated, then 811 lb.-ft. of torque is produced. Not only is the sustainable and emissions-free EV as fast as a Cheetah in Masai Mara, with a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.6 seconds, but it also integrates three core principles from BMW into one unique vehicle: BMW i, BMW X, and BMW M GmbH.

To introduce the latest iX to North America, BMW curated an energy-focused display at the 30th Annual Amelia Concours d’Elegance or simply The Amelia 2025. The SAV confidently took the stand at the front entrance of the esteemed Ritz-Carlton Resort Amelia Island, the host hotel, where all the action occurred. As showgoers witnessed, BMW’s flagship EV blends the brand’s renowned driving dynamics with zero-emission powertrain technology, intelligent advancements, sustainable materials, and efficient production methods.

Offered in three trims (iX xDrive45, iX xDrive60, iX M70 xDrive), BMW said it made some technical changes to make the SAV more efficient, such as how the Lithium-ion battery sends current to the motors through an inverter. Simultaneously, product planners and engineers simplified the exterior styling with clean surfaces while adding new lights, grille design, and 23” rims. An optional M Sport Package inserts bold exterior details and sporty interior features such as enhanced M Multifunction seats. Towing capacity for all models is 3,500 lbs.

With a starting price of $75,150, the range of the iX xDrive45 is estimated at 312 miles, while the iX xDrive60 boasts a 10% increase in range, now up to 340 miles. Yet, the 2026 BMW iX M70 xDrive tips the scale at a whopping  $111,500, excluding the $1,175 destination and handling fee.

The 2026 BMW iX offers dynamics and speeds similar to electric sports cars currently available to environmentally conscious consumers. Thus, it shows the capabilities of hyperactive EVs and what’s imminent from both a technological and carbon-neutral disposition.
