Game, Set, Navigator: Serena Williams and Lincoln Craft the Ultimate One-of-One

By Kimatni D. Rawlins | Automotive Rhythms

It’s no secret that tennis legend Serena Williams and Lincoln have previously collaborated in a long-term relationship that connects the sporting and automotive luxury worlds. This latest chapter, however, transcends ambassadorship, representing a masterclass in bespoke automotive artistry that is deeply personal, symbolic, and undeniably stunning.

Williams didn’t fall in love with the Navigator because of a contract. She chose it, making her connection with Lincoln feel genuine and heartfelt. When a young Serena used her first major tournament winnings in 1998 to proudly buy a Lincoln Navigator—at the time, the epitome of SUV excellence—she lovingly named it “Ginger.” That authentic attachment was the reason Lincoln’s Global Design Director Christine Park Cheng and her team devoted themselves to designing a one-of-a-kind edition just for Serena, a champion, entrepreneur, designer, and mother. The result is a breathtaking tribute to Serena’s poise, power, and distinct identity.

Having driven the latest Navigator Black Label through San Diego’s desert landscapes and rolling hills, I can attest that Lincoln builds one of the most sanctuary-like vehicles on the road. The Navigator stands out with its XL body frame, illuminated grille, adaptive suspension, and a cabin featuring ventilated, massaging seats and an advanced Revel audio system. There is no higher accolade in the Lincoln family than the grandiose Navigator, whose presence commands attention without demanding it. Now imagine all of that crafted exclusively for one of the greatest athletes of our time. That’s exactly what Lincoln did.

To feel the emotion firsthand, I attended a private design presentation and walkaround of Serena’s bespoke Navigator at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn. It was a rare, electric encounter with the visionaries who turned a dream into reality. Up close, the care and passion in every detail became palpable: the constellation-kissed Perfect Rose paint shimmered with hope under the lights, the plush sheepskin carpet begged to be touched, and mesmerizing layers of pink and Rose Gold were woven throughout, each hinting at Serena’s spirit and story.

The bespoke Navigator sports Perfect Rose, a deeper take on Lincoln’s Sunrise Copper with Serena’s favorite, pink, and a constellation-inspired sparkle effect. High Gloss Black panels, Satin Rose Copper grille jewels and badges, and Custom Satin Obsidian trim on 24-inch wheels create a bold yet refined look. A hand-painted rose with an embedded heart appears on the B-pillar and rear tailgate, merging Serena’s loves: pink, hearts, and roses.

Step inside and you’re greeted by what Lincoln calls the “Clay Court & Afterglow” concept. The interior features a rich, warm brown leather called Clay Court, referencing the courts where Serena first rose to dominance, while a lighter tan, named Afterglow, adds softness, creating a feeling of embrace. The vehicle also offers 30-way Perfect Position Seats for highly adjustable comfort, a Revel Ultima 3D sound system with 28 speakers for immersive audio, and a panoramic 48-inch LCD screen for broad visibility. In this bespoke edition, Lincoln further elevates these features with custom ‘Embrace’ seat perforations, in which each side subtly fades toward the center, and a tennis-ball motif woven into the diamond double-stitch quilting.

But the true magic lies in the personal touches. Hand-painted Big and Little Dipper constellations dance across the center console, pouring the wonder of a starry sky into the heart of the interior. When Serena first opened the center console and discovered the bold, hot-pink lining, delight radiated. But it was the sill plates that unlocked emotions so powerful they brought her to tears. They are laser-engraved with her mantra, “keep going,” and adorned with the birth years of her loved ones: Olympia and Adira in the rear, Serena on the driver’s side, and Alexis on the passenger side. This is more than customization; it’s a love letter, written in steel and leather.

Moreover, Lincoln Rejuvenate, a wellness-focused feature that I first experienced on the Nautilus, is standard on the Navigator. This system integrates massaging seats, ambient lighting, and nature-themed audio options to create a relaxing atmosphere. For Serena, a vehicle that serves as a sanctuary for her family while providing moments for personal relaxation is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Lincoln tailored these restorative features to support her lifestyle.

Christine Park Cheng, Lincoln’s Global Design Director, who led the collaboration, said: “She is a true class act and a champion in every sense. We couldn’t be prouder to have her behind our wheel.”

When Serena first saw the vehicle at the studio, she cheered and declared, “This deserves a clap, a standing ovation. She’s beautiful!” No PR professional could have scripted it better, as that kind of elation is simply too natural to fabricate. Lincoln listened, collaborated, and created. The result is a custom-styled Navigator that doesn’t just celebrate a champion, it reflects one.
