Genesis G90 Wingback Concept: The Art of Eloquence

Experienced by Kimatni D. Rawlins

In New York City this week, Genesis celebrated the company’s 10th anniversary of building luxury and sports-oriented vehicles, from sedans to crossovers. The commemoration was highlighted by the unveiling of both its upcoming performance EV, dubbed the GV60 Magma, and a specialty model that many wouldn’t have expected from the Korean brand. Enter the G90 Wingback Concept, a wagon version of its full-size luxury flagship sedan.

First shown in France at a track event and then at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, the electrifying Genesis G90 Wingback Concept is a formula combining inputs from the Korean automaker’s Magma racing program and its G90 luxury touring sedan. So, the Wingback is a luxury wagon with the performance of a racecar. Built on a stock G90 platform, the Wingback embodies Genesis’s commitment to premium builds and Magma’s performance-oriented ethos. Though it’s not exactly a full Magma model, design cues are highlighted by an aggressive widebody kit and larger wheels.

Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke, who drove the vehicle during the reveal, summarizes the opportunity as a bridge between Magma and the One of One bespoke program. “At the moment there is, let’s say, a multiplication of SUVs. And this fast growth will create a saturation,” said Donckerwolke. He continued, “This is when other typologies of cars are going to become attractive again. This is why I strongly believe in not having a typology monoculture.”

On the auto show floor all the rave was about Genesis building the G90 Concept since its elongated physique left many, including me, awestruck. In an industry where designs have become either too convoluted or too simplistic, the Genesis wagon stands apart with mesmeric attributes. Styling features include a dynamic front fascia adorned with the automaker’s signature Crest Grille, a more sculpted front bumper bearing the Magma badge, the distinctive Two-Line headlamps, and large lower air intakes.

Flared wheel arches house intriguing 22” rims fitted with 255/35 ZR22 Pirelli P ZERO max performance summer tires engineered from Pirelli’s 100 years of motorsport experience and competition. The custom gunmetal-finished rims deliberately offer an open view of the large discs and calipers, indicating the level of stopping power required from top acceleration. Moreover, the setup gives the G90 Wingback concept a wider, more powerful stance while maintaining a sophisticated demeanor.

Genesis finished the Wingback’s sheet metal in a Deep Green curated paint, which I will refer to as Matcha Green, a clean, pure, and healthy hue. Artistic flair continues with side winglets, dual tailgate spoilers, a performance-inspired rear diffuser, and quad exhaust tips.

Step inside to discover traces of Magma DNA through eye-catching green-colored Magma stitching and details in the lush, quilted Chamude (a suede-like material) seats and door trim. The stitch pattern continues on the dash, steering wheel, and center console. Racing-like seats also feature an embroidered Magma logo, as you are locked into position for momentous journeys on public roads and circuits alike. But hopefully, lighter-toned cockpit hues will be offered if the vehicle comes to fruition.

It’s still in the concept stage, but in Automotive Rhythms’ opinion, the Genesis G90 Wingback Concept is a must-build for the US market to compete with the likes of the BMW M5 Touring and Audi RS 6 Avant. Yes, we love high-performance luxury wagons over here!
