RA272 Scale Model pays Homage to Honda’s First F1 Win 60 Years Ago

It’s a momentous occasion for Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) as the motorsports division released a premium scale model of the celebrated Honda RA272 (chassis #103) Formula One race car. This is the actual racer that won the 1965 Mexico Grand Prix, Honda’s first F1 victory.

The collector’s item is methodically designed and constructed in partnership with the Amalgam Collection. It features a genuine, decorated livery, hand-built bodywork, and more than 1,600 engineered parts, including a duplicated Honda V12 engine. Artisans produced the RA272 replica in two sizes: 1:8 scale and 1:18 scale. Each is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity and a commemorative booklet signed by Honda Racing Corporation President Koji Watanabe.

“This RA272 model is more than a tribute; it’s an invitation to own a piece of our motorsport history. Racing is deeply embedded in the DNA of Honda, and this model is a reminder of where our success began,” stated Watanabe.

Developing the tooling for the 1:8 scale model required around 4,500 hours, and casting, fitting, painting, and building each model required 450 hours. Before online sales begin, aficionados can purchase a model at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which takes place during the prestigious and popular Monterey Car Week.

Both sizes will be limited in production, with only 30 units of the finely detailed 1:8 scale models constructed for $28,995 and 300 of the desk-friendly 1:18 scale models made for a modest $1,735. No matter the size you choose, the project presents the rare chance for motorsport fans to own a piece of Honda’s racing legacy.

HRC US leads all Honda and Acura high-performance racing programs in North America and will be involved in Formula One power unit development and race support related to Honda’s next phase starting in 2026.
