All-New Kia EV6 Art Car: Electrified Mobility by Shawn “SP the Plug” Perkins

Experienced by Leon Brittain, Photos by Chad Bardon

Kia’s defined manifesto, dubbed the “Plan S” strategy, will bring 11 all-new electrified vehicles to global markets by 2026. The first to set off the all-electric team is the sporty EV6 crossover featuring Kia’s “Opposites United” design techniques. During the ART-of-Motion exhibit at the 2023 Washington, DC Auto Show, our featured artist Shawn “SP the Plug” Perkins transformed the inspirational vehicle into a mobile work of art infused with EV power highlights. The technologically-laden, coupe-like architecture was perfect for the four fundamental art ideologies he applied to the hood, doors, and rear tailgate. We even captured a fantastic shot of Shawn painting himself painting on the all-electric Kia EV6.

Powered by a state-of-the-art 77.4kWh lithium-ion battery that allows up to a 310-mile range, Shawn’s idea was to incorporate a vision that touched on the efficiency of the EV6 while highlighting its sustainable, energy-efficient output. That translated into views of nature seamlessly meshed with electrical symbolism. The environmental aspect showcases various outdoor scenes of our nation’s capital, such as the Tidal Basin, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial, with blooming cherry blossoms, sunsets, and blue skies. Expressions of zero emissions are emphasized with plugs, batteries, computer motherboards, and electrical outlets, all of which are elements utilized by the EV to perform carbon-free. The artwork reflects not only the mechanics behind the Kia but also the positive conservational footprint that makes the EV6 one of a kind.

“The EV6 marks a new and transformative era in Kia electrification,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America, Kia America. “This innovative offering leverages the many benefits of its advanced platform to offer a level of technological excitement and convenience that will provide a superb ownership experience.”
