The Carspondent.com Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year, the only car-of-the-year competition that combines the input of automotive journalists with elite and area athletes, announces winners for the October 2014 competition.
This year’s event that took place at the Local Motors’ micro-factory in Chandler, Arizona was the most competitive in program history, including thirty vehicles from over a dozen auto manufacturers, automotive journalists and close to 100 athletes. Winners were often decided by hundredths of a point.
Athletes on hand for the October 18 finals included members of Arizona Legends, retired NFL players of Arizona, representatives from Sole Sports Running Zone, Fit Mom Diet and Fit Fathers, elite runners, triathletes, paddlers, cyclists, swimmers and more.
“The wide variety of athletes who attend our program and judge vehicles reflect changes in the active market as it continues to grow,” said ALV co-founder Nina Russin. “That’s why our program is not limited to one vehicle configuration such as sport-utility vehicles or crossovers. The fact is that a well-designed sedan can work quite well for some active lifestyles, while others require the cargo capacity and off-road capability of a body-on-frame SUV.”
Vehicles were entered in eight categories, ranging from Urban that included small cars priced under $20,000 to high-end luxury models and vehicles with serious off-road capability. Following are the winners for the 2015 program:
- Urban: Kia Soul Best
- Value On-Road: Dodge Journey Crossroad
- Best Value Off-Road: Subaru Outback
- Luxury On-Road: Mercedes-Benz C400
- Luxury Off-Road: Jeep Grand Cherokee
- EcoDiesel Best Value Family: Dodge Durango
- Luxury Family: Cadillac Escalade
- Green ALV: Volkswagen Golf TDI
This year’s ALV program also featured the second annual Local Motors ALV Design competition sponsored by XPEL technologies, drawing close to fifty entries from Local Motors’ global community of designers and engineers. Stay tuned for a separate release on design competition winners.
