Charger Hellcat earns top SAMA honor at Miami Auto Show

2015 Dodge Charger SRT HellcatThe 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat was selected “Star of the Show” today for the 44th annual Miami International Auto Show (MIAS) that opened to the public Friday night at the Miami Beach Convention Center. A 10-member panel of judges from the Southern Automotive Media Association (SAMA) also selected the 2015 Ford F-150 as the “Pick-up Truck of the Show,” the 2015 Cadillac Escalade as the “Utility Vehicle of the Show,” and the 2015 BMW i8 as the “Green Technology Vehicle of the Show.”

The Lexus display was chosen “Best Interactive Display of the Show.” “With the constant and ongoing improvements made by every manufacturer, finding clear winners is becoming increasingly challenging,” SAMA President Bill Adam said. ”But choosing the Dodge Charger Hellcat as the Star of the Show was well deserved. When a company like Dodge can mass produce a car with more than 700 horsepower with total reliability and can still exceed 20 miles per gallon, it is truly a most impressive automobile.”

This is the eighth consecutive year that SAMA has given the awards at the MIAS. The prestigious panel of SAMA members walked the floor of the show and reviewed more than 600 vehicles prior to the opening and determined which vehicles would receive the coveted awards.

“With this being the first event of the auto show season, the SAMA winners traditionally have gone on to receive similar recognition and awards at other shows throughout the year,” Adam said. Jose “Pepe” Delfino, founding member of SAMA and the current SAMA’s board Secretary and Media & Internet Director, and Jaime Gabaldoni, Terra Network USA Auto Senior Editor, served as co-chairmen of the judging committee.

Other members were veteran automotive writer Angelica Willard, track announcer Ric Green, bilingual automotive journalist Juan Robbin, communications expert Jose Carlos De Mier, veteran automotive journalist and SAMA founding member Pepe Forte, FAMA Magazine autos and travel editor Al Vazquez, seasoned media and communications professional Fredy Wiles and Simon Gomez, MSN Latino collaborator, former Maxim autos editor and current writer for the popular blog Auto Notas.

The Miami International Auto Show continues through Nov. 16.
