2018 Chicago Auto Show: Wintry Snow Rides, Exotics, Slingshots and More Trucks!

It was brutally cold in Chicago for the auto show but there were plenty of fire and ice vehicles in place to handle the setting. From high performing exotics such as the Lamborghini Urus to heat up the scene to vans targeting Baby Boomers like the Ford Transit Connect to ultra snowmobiles in Nissan’s set of winter vehicles dubbed 370Zki and Armada Snow Patrol. In fact, the Japanese automaker created their own Winter Wonderland in McCormick Place replete with faux snow to showcase the intended bravado of these new weather machines. They also displayed various custom trucks such as the Lifted Titan XD (3 inch) pickup which keeps the underbody free from aftermarket cutting and frustration. Each was perfect for the snowstorm that hit Chicago shortly after media day one.

The Chicago Auto Show and Chicago Automobile Trade Association ascertained that there was plenty of news for journalists with features such as the MAMA breakfast with Thomas Doll, President and COO of Subaru; the Economic Club of Chicago Luncheon with Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of VW Group America; and the Concept & Technology Garage as the industry heads into the realm of automation, green energy, and autonomous driving. Product introductions and press conferences were held by Toyota, Ford, Volkswagen, Subaru, BMW, Slingshot, Acura, Hyundai, Kia, and Mazda to name a few. Evening entertainment came in the form of Nissan’s Welcome Reception at the newfangled Marriott Marquis Chicago, the Lexus Party at The Geraghty featuring the Black Panther Lexus LC, and Sweet Home Chicago at Reggie’s Chicago.

Here are some more key highlights!

The 2019 Toyota Avalon was sitting pretty during media day. We absolutely love the exciting and progressive grilles on their updated product line.

VW’s 2019 Arteon is a spin on the higher end vehicles in the company’s fleet and also represents as the successor of the CC. In this case art meets everyday life. Expect the sporty, 4-door hatchback to hit the scene late summer.

Hanging with the Black Panther Lexus LC500 during a media party at The Geraghty to help kick off the show. Both the movie and the vehicle are heroic. Good times with friends and business associates as usual.

Infiniti’s Q Inspiration Concept in the flesh at the Chicago Auto Show. Not only is its design epic, but the concept’s VC-Turbo variable compression engine is just as impressive. Cross your fingers that it comes to fruition.

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster N is the first “N” model to debut in the US. Its 2-liter turbo features 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque to go along with high performance tires wrapped around 19” rims, an electronically controlled suspension, and dual exhaust tips. Arriving towards the end of 2018 Hyundai is targeting enthusiasts for this model.

Going after the baby boomer market with their Transit Connect Wagon Ford is situating the utility van as affordable, flexible, and smart. Since 5-million autos are purchased annually by consumers over the age of 50 the domestic car manufacturer thought it would be most fitting. Their customers need a vehicle that can switch from work mode to family play mode while receiving good fuel economy. The Transit Connect Wagon can connect to Alexa as your personal assistant and tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Slingshot had a good time showing off their three-wheeled roadster lineup which included the fully loaded Grand Touring LE with the color-matched Slingshade roof enclosure. Starting at $29,999, expect the vehicle at dealers in March, outfitted with Quilted Comfort Seats, Ride Command infotainment with turn-by-turn navigation, a color-matched rear fender, and a limited edition graphics package. The 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine puts out 173 horsepower and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Looks like it’s time to fire her up and blaze out in style.

We simply can’t get enough of this hyper active 2018 Kia Stinger GT by our friends at West Coast Customs. Ever since SEMA it has been popping up everywhere including this latest debut at the Chicago Auto Show. The Blue Metallic performance, fastback is blessed with KEENDESIGN 21″ 3-Piece forged wheels, a widebody fender flare kit, carbon fiber trim, front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, carbon fiber aero kit, and much more. Are you ready to break with convention and sting the competition?

The Lamborghini Urus high performance and ultra luxurious SUV made its debut with some pretty heavy numbers:

-MSRP: From $200,000

-powerplant : V8 bi-turbo

-horsepower: 650

-top speed: 189 mph

-0 to 60 mph: 3.6 Seconds
