Bandits beware, there’s a new sheriff in town. The 2025 Ford Expedition Special Service Vehicle (SSV) marks the automaker’s 75th year providing purpose-built automobiles for law enforcement departments nationwide. The SSV joins Ford’s longstanding lineage of police cruisers, dating back to the first Police Package for the 1950 Ford Custom. Since then, Ford has become the cop car of choice for the industry, making the American automaker the undisputed leader in police vehicle units.

The all-new SSV shares many features with its civilian sibling, the Expedition MAX, such as two—or three-row seating configurations, a 24” panoramic display, a split tailgate, and towing capabilities up to 9,600 lbs. However, the SSV offers features exclusive to the boys in blue, including Dark Car, which turns off interior lighting to stay hidden during stakeouts, an accessory theft prevention system known as PAITRO, and those red and blue emergency lights we sometimes hate to see.

This battering ram on wheels is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged Ecoboost V6 with 400-horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. All SSVs come with AWD, backup assist, and cross-traffic alert systems.

With the 2025 Ford Expedition SSV, law enforcement gains a versatile and commanding tool built to handle everything from high-speed pursuits to rugged off-road terrains. As Ford celebrates 75 years of serving those who protect the public, the new Expedition SSV is a testament to the company’s dedication to innovation and safety. Orders for the 2025 Ford Expedition Special Service Vehicle (SSV) are now open.
